(BRC) Basic Rider Course
The BRC is a two day, sixteen hour course. This class is required for
all new applicants for a motorcycle license
regardless of age or riding experience. Students who are under 24
must have a valid Texas Drivers License or Learners Permit.
Motorcycles, classroom materials, and helmets, are provided by
Motorsports Training Center.
The Basic Rider Course tuition is required prior to the class. Your spot in
the class will not be reserved until payment is received.

- Course completion normally allows for waiver of the DPS driving test

Why is training needed ?
Research has shown that few people (less than 10%) have any formal training
before they begin to ride a motorcycle. Everyone can benifit from a Motorcycle
Rider Course.
The Basic Rider Course
- The course is classroom and on-cycle instruction. Basic techniques as well
as defensive maneuvers will be taught. We provide the motorcycle during the
course.
- It is designed for the beginner who wants to learn to ride a motorcycle or
for the experienced rider who wants to sharpen their riding skills.
- Minimum age for the course is 15 and all students under 18 require
parental consent and a Class C unrestricted license or the classroom portion
of Drivers Ed completed.
- Students must attend all class sessions and pass both written and riding
skills tests in order to receive a Certificate of Completion.
- The certificate, when presented to the DPS license office, normally allows
any person with a Class C unrestricted license to waive the on-cycle road
test.
- This course is designed to teach basic techniques. We cannot gaurantee the
safe operation of your motorcycle.
- When attending any rider courses, the following must be
worn: Long-sleeved shirt or jacket, long pants, full fingered gloves,
boots or shoes that cover the ankle, a D.O.T. approved helmet, and eye
protection.
- Helmets are provided if the student doesn t have one.
- Students must be able to balance on the motorcycle. This course
requires physical strength and stamina. Persons not in good health
should NOT take this course. If you are not heat or cold tolerant, choose
your course date accordingly.
